What is the PAES Lab?

PAES is a hands-on assessment of employment potential that is available to high school students in Mifflin & Juniata Counties in conjunction with the TIU. The PAES lab is housed at our Yale Street facility. Participants clock in and go to work exploring nearly 300 jobs in 5 career areas to help discover job skills they are good at and what jobs skills they like to do. PAES consists of the following 5 modules.

  • Business/Marketing

  • Computer Technology

  • Construction/Industrial

  • Processing/Production

  • Consumer/Service

The Practical Assessment Exploration System (PAES)

PAES work development lab allows students to become employees and teachers to become employers. The lab assesses a student's competitive work potential and interest level, while simultaneously exploring various jobs, using real tools, and developing proper work behaviors.

  • PAES provides training in basic generalizable vocational and life skills that relate to most careers.

  • PAES offers skills needed for vocational training, placement and independent living.

  • PAES provides exploration through hands-on experience providing real and meaningful career information and knowledge of what the student can do.

  • PAES provides for data collection and student reporting. It helps give an accurate description of student performance and employment potential.
